Human Trafficking Awareness training video series

Role: Art director/designer/animator, San Francisco Department on the Status of Women (freelance)

Programs: Illustrator, AfterEffects

Additional Talent: Animation by Jason Allen, voiceover by Chrisdine King

The city of San Francisco commissioned a series of 16 training videos for restaurant/hospitality industry workers and the general public to take action on human trafficking in the Bay Area.

The main challenge for the series was to create a clear, concise resource that explained the scope of human trafficking within global systems without overwhelming the viewer. Without access to recorded video or commissioned photography, I leveraged strong visuals and carefully selected stock photography to tell the story.

These videos tackle training in accessible steps: introduce the topic, use storytelling to demonstrate relatable impact, give global context and broader information, identify and report warning signs, and provide actionable steps to prevent and reduce trafficking.

I led the project, from working with the client and script writer, to developing storyboards, to creating all design assets, to photo and music selection. My project partner, Jason Allen, took on animation alongside me, and Chrisdine King was the voiceover talent.

The videos were well-received and, since release, this training has been translated into Spanish, Mandarin, and Tagalog to better serve the Bay Area’s target audience. The series is available through Stanford University.
