American Society of Landscape Architects Annual Meeting and Expo

Role: Designer/on-site graphics, O’Keefe Communications

Programs: Photoshop, Keynote

Our challenge was to create engaging, rich visuals that would transform a blank screen into a dynamic stage environment at the American Society of Landscape Architects’ Annual Meeting and Expo—using only a logo and loose brand guidelines. As part of the design team, I worked with key stakeholders at ASLA to determine theme, messaging, and graphics needs.

The conference theme needed to be carried across mainstage, guest plenary speaker, and panel segments for a consistent experience across the three day conference. Screen spatial considerations for image magnification (live video), integrated screen content (e.g. full screen graphics), inset graphic sources (e.g. external speaker presentations shown in a frame), graphic backdrop builds, and on-camera step-and-repeat backdrops needed to be taken into account when developing seamless graphics across input sources. My design solutions reflected these considerations.

The conference included separate dinner events and award ceremonies that required me to create additional distinct treatments that could live alongside the overall conference brand.

On-site, I tested animations to make sure the movement added to the experience rather than distracting or triggering motion sickness. I also worked directly with speakers as needed to edit graphics during rehearsals and on-the-fly to ensure the accuracy and impact of information presented.

We received wonderful feedback from conference staff and attendees alike.
